A consultant is someone who provides expertise for a particular issue. In order to be successful you must improve the client’s condition but you must do it without taking any decisions. Your role is to advice, it’s up to your client to assess your advice and make appropriate decisions.
Consulting is a relationship business, it’s based on trust. When we speak about internal consulting, we automatically bring in discussion the “lack of trust” problem. Keep in mind that “Departments don’t earn trust, individuals do”.
The consultant job involves three areas:

- skills (knowledge and experiences)
